By the time February rolls around, I'm pretty ready for springtime to get here. Flowers, sunshine, longer days. I try to get rid of the winter blues with some fresh tulips on my desk, a little sparkle and a pop of color on my wrist. Any tips on how to stay peppy til the end of winter?

You're awesome.

It can get repetitive when you are chugging through your work weeks. Some weeks are amazing (a great feature from a favorite blogger!) and some weeks are spent on the phone with UPS, trying to get them to release a missed package.

While you're doing those things, don't forget to celebrate all your successes. Acknowledge that it's HARD to run a small business. We can be hard on ourselves because we are setting our own standard for success.  Don't forget to appreciate your more important employee: you!

Pop open a little sparkly. Buy that fancy stapler you've had your eye on. Have a little dance party! You're awesome.

Favorite Tasks

I love opening packages. I will never get tired of it! It's always fun for me to see what goodies have arrived in the mail. Mondays can be rough, with so much catch up, but Monday mail days are the bright spot in the day.

What makes you happiest about your daily work routine?

The Magic Word

Friday, December 19, 2014

I have a really hard time delegating tasks- when it's my turn to make dinner, I don't let my husband help because I always feel like my way is better.  Do you ever have that problem?

It becomes a huge issue when you're running your own business. It's important to let go of those extra tasks so that you can focus on the big picture.  You can be the CEO, the visionary. Keep doing the things you love to do, the things that you are skilled at, so that your company can flourish.

Delegation is the magic word! And absolutely key to a successful business.

Comparison is the thief of joy, but..

One thing that I learned from the past 8 years of running my jewelry business is that the saying "Comparison is the thief of joy" is very true.

But you know what else is true? The world is chock full of inspiration. It doesn't help you to compare and compete, but seeing what's out there can also encourage you to shoot for bigger and better. Sometimes when you are feeling stuck, take a look at what people in your industry are doing, and let yourself ride the waves on other people's enthusiasm. It's contagious!

Psst: Don't forget to share your images on social media!

It's hard to run a small business these days. Between marketing, social media, branding, you actually are a professional juggler. Little things fall by the wayside- but those little things are actually BIG things. Things like posting on your social media channels.

Sometimes the problem is content. Using your professional photos sprinkled in with behind the scenes (use hashtag #bts) is a great way to remind your customer about your lovely designs!
